Tues. and Wed., Dec. 10-11

Tuesday – The students went to the library. Mrs. Peterson presented a lesson on using the encyclopedias, and the students were given time to research information for their speeches.

Wednesday – The students completed a worksheet on prepositional phrases. Most of class time was given for students to memorize the list of prepositions for Friday’s test, work on speeches, and finish reading their AR books.

Speeches are due Monday, December 15. These are required for classes B and C.

You must take an AR test by this Friday, December 12. This will count as a test grade.

Memorize the list of 50 prepositions on page 352 of the Writing and Grammar book by Friday. Also be very familiar with the short list of compound prepositions given to you in class. You will need to know these for the test as well. The test on prepositions will be Friday. Know them well enough to list them.

Homework:  Complete page 358 of the Writing and Grammar book, exercises 6 and 7.  Follow the directions given.  Write sentences on exercise 7.

Tomorrow is library day.  Bring your library books and any fines that you owe.

Speeches are due Monday, December 15.  Know your topic by tomorrow.

You must take an AR test by this Friday.  This will count as a test grade.

Begin memorizing the list of fifty prepositions on page 352 of the Writing and Grammar textbook.  There will be a test over these next week.  You should know them well enough to list them.

Each student must take an AR test on his or her level by Friday, December 12.  This will count as a test grade.

The hats and gloves for the 4-H service project are due Monday, December 8.  The posters for the 4-H poster contest are also due that day.  Neither of these activities are mandatory, but I hope you will participate.

Classes A and D:  Speeches are due for extra credit on Monday, December 15.

Classes B and C:  Speeches are due on Monday, December 15.  These are required.  Be able to tell me your topic by Tuesday, December 9.  We will be going to the library that day, and you may use that time to do research.

Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 4-5

Wednesday Homework: Page 353 in the Writing and Grammar book, exercises 2 and 3.  Write the sentences and follow the directions.

Thursday Homework: Complete the worksheet by writing six complete sentences using prepositional phrases.  Underline the prepositional phrases.  Put two lines under the objects.

Homework:  Page 353 of the Writing and Grammar book, exercises 2 and 3.  Follow directions and write the sentences.  Use different prepositions in each blank in exercise 3.

Today we had a new lesson on prepositions.  This information can be found on page 352 of the Writing and Grammar textbook.  We also discussed the components of the 4-H speech.  The speech is required for classes B and C.  Students in all of the classes are encouraged to present a speech.  Hand-outs to help with the speech will be given tomorrow.  

Homework:  The students were to tear out workbook page 33/34 to complete for homework.  All parts of this should be completed.

Speeches will be due on December 15.

The 4-H service project (gloves and hats) and posters for the poster contest are due Monday, December 8.  Both of these are voluntary for all classes.

Today, the students took their Think Link Learning Language Arts, Math, and Science tests.

Homework:  The 4-H service project gloves/mittens and hats are due on Monday, December 8.  Also, if you are entering the 4-H poster contest, your poster is also due on Monday, December 8.  Both of these activities are voluntary, but I encourage everyone to participate.

Remember that you must read an AR book on your assigned level and take a test on it by next Friday, December 12.

My homeroom:  Parents, please see the letter about our holiday party that was sent home today.

Language Arts, 11/17-11/19

Monday – The students were given their Star Reader test results to keep in their binders.  The students should use the ZPD range from this sheet when choosing an Accelerated Reader book.  Each student must take at least one AR test by December 12.  The students visited the library today to check out books in the appropriate range.

Tuesday – Classes A and D were introduced to the vocabulary words for “The Stone.”  These words and the story can be found on pages 29-37 of the reading book.  They completed a vocabulary chart in class. Classes B and C had a lesson on using colons correctly.  They completed pages 255-256 of the Workshop books in the classroom.

Wednesday – The students reviewed the vocabulary for “The Stone” and read the story together.

Homework:  You should be reading your AR book.  You must take an AR test by December 12. 

We will have a test Friday on “The Stone.”  The eight vocabulary words will be included. 

Interims went home today (Wednesday).  Parents, please sign and return them tomorrow.

For the 4-H service project, you may bring hats or gloves for children or adults for Project Outreach. This is not required, but I hope we have many participants.  : )

Today the students took the test over the story “The Bracelet.” If you were absent, you will need to make this up on Wednesday.

Homework: Don’t forget to be reading your AR book. Have a nice, long weekend! Enjoy having Monday and Tuesday off! : )

Language Arts, 11/5-11/6

Wednesday – The students checked and discussed the study guide for “The Bracelet.”  Then, we watched a short video about Japanese internment camps, which went along with our story.

Thursday – We had 4-H with Ms. Edwards.  The students took notes on how to write and present a speech.

Homework: The vocabulary and story test over “The Bracelet” will be tomorrow (Friday.)  Study your vocabulary words and review your corrected study guides.  If you were absent when we read the story, please be sure to read it carefully.
