Today in Language Arts, we discussed folklore, repetition, refrain, and ballads.  We read the ballad “John Henry” and discussed it together, including the repetition and refrains used throughout.  Then the students watched the video of “John Henry.”  If you were absent, read pages 650-654 of the blue literature book.

Homework:  Start reading your AR book for the last nine weeks.

We started a poetry unit in class today.  The students were given a study guide containing poetry elements that they need to know.  The students also learned how to determine a poem’s rhyme scheme.  We began reading the poem “Sneetches,” which begins on page 627 of the blue reading book.

Homework:  You must take an AR test and print out your grade by Friday of this week.  We will have a test Friday over the poetry terms given today in class (see study guide) and the poem “Sneetches.”

Spring pictures will be taken on Wednesday of this week.
