Last week, the students read “King Long Shanks,” “Rapunzel,” and “Rumpelstiltskin” from the blue Elements of Literature book. They also viewed videos of “Rapunzel,” “Rumpelstiltskin,” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” We read about and discussed the elements of fairy tales, which can be found on page 270. The students completed two Venn diagrams that compared and contrasted (A) “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and “King Long Shanks” and (B) “Rapunzel” and “Rumpelstiltskin.”
Today, classes A, B, and C had an open-book/note quiz on comparing and contrasting “King Long Shanks” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” They also began a journal writing activity dealing with the fairy tales we’ve read in class.
Today, class D had a new lesson on similes and metaphors. They will complete the quiz and journal activity Wednesday, due to a pep rally tomorrow.
Homework: The students are required to do a demonstration or create a piggy bank for 4-H this nine weeks. Each student was given a copy of the newsletter to keep. The piggy banks are due on Monday, February 2. Demonstrations are due on Thursday, February 5.
